I am very happy to report that I am a new Sugoi brand champion. Gone are the days of cotton socks and shirts. Whew! I will offer some reviews of products as I get them so stay tuned, and thanks to all the new followers for joining the team (click on that little button to the right to follow the blog :)).

So you got free stuff?!!
Yes, I did. As I noted below I got some great Sugoi Piston Compression tights. They have been really great and they hold up in the cold winter weather. Most importantly - they fit the tall girl!! I felt pretty fortunate to test the tights given that this year has been so successful for me. I felt like it would be best to pay it forward.

What better thing to do then to support where you run. I love running in Forest Park. Here is the pavilion*. Who wouldn't want to run here - there are miles of paths - the zoo - tennis courts - art museum - history museum - the MUNY and much more.

SUGOI Athletic Performance Apparel

The SUGOI Story

For years, hard-core endurance athletes have known SUGOI as making the most incredible, and incredibly hard-working, apparel in endurance sports.

In fact, "incredible" is exactly what SUGOI means in Japanese. For over 20 years, we've been working diligently to make sure we live up to our name.

SUGOI's journey began when bicycle racer David Hollands, and Carol Prantner, a fashion student, founded the company in 1987. The upstart originated as a basement operation in the outdoor playground of Vancouver, British Columbia. The initial product merely consisted of bike shorts, made to address the short supply of genuine technical cycling apparel, which all came from Japan or Europe at the time. These humble shorts contained the genesis of the original SUGOI ethic of innovation and excellence and soon enough, other competitors wanted the shorts too. SUGOI quickly earned an almost cult-following among athletes seeking the best performing, best-looking apparel available.

Twenty years hasn't changed our relentless focus on making workouts a great experience, but the company has certainly changed. Today, SUGOI has more than 250 employees. Our expansive catalogs now offer hundreds of technical garments and accessories, including underlayers, jackets, shorts, swimsuits, socks, and hats. With distribution throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, SUGOI is truly an international brand.

Ironman winners, World Champions and Olympians—they've all worn SUGOI and continually provide us with flattering feedback on our range of apparel. We admit that we revel in such praise from the ranks of the elite, but we've always known our success derives from recognizing and serving the needs of our core customer: the committed everyday athlete. After all, that's who we are; you can tell by the bikes in our parking lot and the running shoes on our feet.

In February 2008, Montreal-based Dorel Industries Inc., a world class juvenile and bicycle products company bought SUGOI brands from Pegasus Capital Advisors, which acquired Cannondale in 2003 and SUGOI in 2006.

Dorel's purchase is tremendous news for SUGOI and for the bicycling industry. Dorel has demonstrated a great dedication to the bike industry, underlining the need to distinguish between independent bicycle dealers and the mass market. Dorel's long-term focus also adds strength to SUGOI's plan for sustained growth in the running and triathlon markets. What this means for SUGOI consumers and retailers is a continued commitment to quality products and a reinforced focus on designing outstanding apparel, expanding sales, and supporting our customers throughout North America and Europe.

Thanks to our devoted customers, SUGOI keeps growing. But in many respects we're still the same small company simply striving to make incredible apparel—stuff that we want to wear during a work out or race. We're still located here in Vancouver—the vibrant, diverse, and athletically active city which plays muse to our creativity. In an increasingly outsourced world, we're proud that a large portion of our products are still made with passion and expertise inside the walls of SUGOI's two buildings.

Same as ever, we're pushing the envelope with our new products. This spring, for example, we'll introduce our Hydro-Shifter, a technical revolution in multi sport performance with a tightly woven construction which cuts sleekly through the water and air. Also, SUGOI introduces Gobi fabric - the new benchmark for ultimate hot weather performance.

In the spring of 2007, SUGOI celebrated our 20th anniversary with the launch of a new logo and increased focus on making our brand the go-to choice for anyone who sweats for fun. The new trademark more truly represents SUGOI's contemporary and innovative spirit. SUGOI's enduring commitment to quality and innovation is being carried on with a new vision, management team and logo so that the next 20 years will be even more incredible than the first.
